You, I Said

The tiny star of your hand
nestles into mine
as we circle the block.
“Mommy,
who is more important,
me, or the whole world?”

This is the place, I thought,
where words cannot coexist to
bring us safely back home.

“You,” I said
as I gently let
the whole world down.
