Description
CALYX is turning 50! On March 11, 1976, four women writers and artists created a platform specifically designed to spotlight the voices of marginalized creators. CALYX Press has been the home of intersectional perspectives and the lived experiences of women and nonbinary artists through anthologies, books, and its biannual literary journal ever since.
Radical Resilience: A Feminist Literary Symposium
DATE: March 14, 9 am – 2:30 pm
VENUE: Corvallis Museum
COST: $5 for museum admission (pay at the door), free with a Gala ticket
We’ll begin this community gathering at 9 am with song and celebration, and then we’ll open the mic to poets, writers, and artists who have published with us over the years. We’ll take a community photo, share stories and memories, hear from women who have served or currently serve as members of our editorial collectives, laugh, cry, and appreciate all we have accomplished as a community of women and nonbinary artists and creators over the years.
Funding 50 More Years: A CALYX Glitterati Gala
DATE: March 14, 6 – 10 pm
VENUE: Corvallis Museum
COST: $75 general public, $50 CALYX volunteers
Doors for this event will open at 6 pm with wine, cheese, and a chamber quartet, offering attendees the opportunity to mingle, peruse, bid on items donated for auction to benefit the Press, and visit the Museum’s semiquincentennial exhibit in our honor. The party will begin at 7 pm, with a stellar array of musical entertainment, including Julie Williams, Rita Brown, Leigh Ann Starcevich, Bill Smyth, Barbara Gladstone, and Audrey Perkins. Throughout the evening, we’ll take time to honor past, present, and future members of the CALYX community: those writers, artists, editors, readers, subscribers, donors, interns, and Board and office volunteers who have kept CALYX Journal in print for half a century.
Your contribution to our fundraising efforts starts with the purchase of a ticket to the Glitterati Gala. Tickets are $50 for CALYX Community Members (current volunteers and interns) and $75 for members of the public. The price of the ticket includes admission to the Symposium, admission to the Corvallis Museum, admission to the Gala, one raffle ticket, refreshments, the chance to win fabulous prizes (including a limited-edition, signed letterpress poem Ursula K. Le Guin composed in honor of CALYX in 1989), an evening of liberated entertainment, and–to top it all off–cupcakes and champagne.
