These works are part of a long process of working with my own aging face. I want to make visible the full presence of older women’s lives, and our myriad emotions and experiences, especially of how it feels to age in this culture. My purpose is to confront viewers with images of older women as subjects, not objects, of the artistic gaze and to validate the value of older women as artists and fully human and wise beings.
Linda Joy Kattwinkel is a seventy-one-year-old visual artist based in San Francisco, CA. She has been making art since she was five. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and online, where she has received several awards. She has been a copyright lawyer for more than thirty years, with a special focus on assisting visual artists with their legal issues.
